Horse Racing: Royal Ascot 2020 has seen Covid-19 pandemic affect as prize money for showpiece event is reduced to more than half and now winner to get 3.8 million pounds. This year’s is scheduled to take place between 16 and 20 June.
In December, Royal Ascot organizers announced that prize money for 2020 event would be 10.08 million pounds. But on Thursday, they’ve announced the reduced price more than half.
Ascot Racecourse chief executive Guy Henderson said in a statement that 2020 had been set to be a landmark year before the “unprecedented times”.
“Some 70% of our annual income comes from public admissions, including hospitality,” he said.
Spectators will not be allowed to enjoy live horse racing from the place. No royal meeting this year like previous years.
The eight Group One races will each be run for 250,000 pounds.
