Football is one of the most popular sports around the globe and every footballer wants to win for his team and country he plays for. Undoubtedly Lionel Messi is one of the top players of sport and he’s won so many club trophies and awards but he literally misses winning international trophy for national side Argentina.
Thus Argentine’s legendary footballer Roberto Ayala has some good thing to share with Messi and Argentina fans and lovers as he believes that current national side is doing well and maintaining a good combination that will support Messi rather than depending on him. In a recent interview to Goal, Ayala praised Messi for his leadership.
“In terms of the game, it’s obvious that he always was and is a leader. He is a guy that likes to decide, who has no problem deciding the game, to finish it. Today I see a very good combination. [within the team] We hope to be able to help him; that the team gives him a hand too,” Ayala said.
“We would like to have a team with Messi and not by Messi. The idea is to have players around him that could be empowered with him and that they too can take advantage of having him by their side,” he added.
Argentinian soccer team were runners-up in 2014 world cup and 2016 Copa America, meanwhile team failed to reach semis at last FIFA world cup in 2018. Hence Argentina is now working on upcoming 2022 world cup and before that they’ll have to qualify for mains event and compete in Copa America.
“I see a man who took on the responsibility of being the captain both on and off the pitch. He’s in charge of marking this new generation with that sense of belonging that we also had. It’s a place where he feels comfortable, he wants to be here and where he would like to win something with the Argentina national team,” Ayala quoted.
The next big international football event for Argentina will be 2021 Copa America which was originally scheduled to play in June-July 2020 but due to Coronavirus spread, it’s postponed. So it will be interesting to see how Argentina performs in upcoming few years with Messi. But yes, everyone wants to see Messi winning cup for Argentina.
